Mark Shickel

Mark Shickel
Mark earned his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Virginia Tech and remains a Hokie at heart. After graduation, he returned to work for Shickel and started the Engineering Department. He spent 24 years as Vice President of Engineering & Sales until he stepped into the role of President of Shickel Corporation upon the retirement of Helen Shickel in 2014. When Mark is not working at Shickel he is busy raising cattle on his farm, spending time with his family and helping with leadership at his church.

Mark Whalen

Mark Whalen
Mark earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Virginia Tech in 2002 and an M.B.A. from James Madison University in 2017. He began as a project manager at Shickel in 2006, became Manager of Engineering in early 2017, and was named Vice President in 2019. Throughout his time at Shickel, he has managed a wide range of projects, from complex pharmaceutical equipment to large, monumental stairs, and everything in between.
Outside of Shickel, Mark enjoys darts, smoking bbq, putzing around on house projects, and following his favorite sports teams: the Hokies, Baltimore Orioles, and Pittsburgh Steelers.

Isaac Shickel

Isaac Shickel
Growing up in the family business gave Isaac the unique opportunity to work in nearly every area of the operation, gaining a wide range of knowledge and skills along the way. His first job was emptying trash cans around the fab shop and counting inventory in the stockroom. In high school and college, he gained hands-on experience in the field service department, working job sites throughout Virginia, D.C., and Maryland. After graduating from JMU in 2015 with a degree in Business Management, he moved into a full-time Project Management role to further build his understanding of Shickel's work from start to finish. Isaac is currently Director of Operations, overseeing fabrication, delivery, and installation.
Outside of work, Isaac enjoys spending time outdoors, hunting, fishing, and boating with his wife and three young children. He's grateful to continue the family legacy at Shickel, as the fourth generation in the business.

Nick Hilbert

Nick Hilbert
Nick began his career at Shickel in 2005 in the steel room, unloading trucks and maintaining inventory. Learning the trade from the ground up, he has fabricated and installed everything from exceptional custom metal products to monumental stairs installed throughout the DMV and beyond. He completed the VA apprenticeship program to become a journeyman in metal fabrication in 2012 and earned a degree in business management from Blue Ridge Community College. In 2015, Nick moved into project management, pairing his hands-on craftsmanship with industry knowledge to lead high-end, complex projects. He was named Director of Project Management in 2023.
Outside of Shickel, Nickenjoys spending time outdoors, watching college football, and camping with hiswife, two boys, and their family dog Lucy.

Deb Sweigart

Deb Sweigart
Deb attended James Madison University, where she earned a B.S. in Health Sciences. She began working at Shickel in 2005 as an Engineering Assistant before becoming Quality Coordinator in 2014, a role that eventually led to becoming the Manager of Quality. In this role, she develops, implements, and maintains an organization-wide quality management system, and is responsible for maintaining Shickel's AISC certification in the Standard for Steel Building Structures, along with its Sophisticated Coatings endorsement. Deb has also served as Corporate Secretary for Shickel Corporation since 2019. Alongside her coworkers, Deb strives to uphold Shickel's mission to "pursue excellence with integrity."
In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends and being active outdoors.

Ashley Davidson

Ashley Davidson
Ashley earned a B.A. in Business Administration with an emphasis in Accounting from Bridgewater College in 2018. She began working at Shickel in January 2019 as a Staff Accountant and has continued to grow within the company, earning her Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designation in 2022.
Outside of Shickel, Ashley enjoys spending time with her husband, Ben, family, and friends, as well as crafting, playing piano, and playing tennis. She's an active member of her church and its young adult group and stays closely involved with her family farm alongside her brother and parents.

Jake Mumbauer

Jake Mumbauer
Jake earned his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Old Dominion University in 2009. He joined Shickel Corporation in 2012 as a Project Manager and has managed many diverse and complex projects in the manufacturing, pharmaceutical and architectural sectors. He transitioned to Safety Manager in 2024 and performs new-hire and supplementary training as well. In his spare time, he loves working on projects with friends and family and spending time with his wife Gloria.

Dave McDonaldson

Dave McDonaldson
Dave has been a valuable asset to Shickel Corporation as Drafting Manager since 2015. He brings over 22 combined years of experience as a metal detailer and drafting manager, in addition to a decade in the metal industry before that, working as a pipe welder and metal fabricator. He knows metal, and he knows how to create quality drawings that deliver the information needed to fabricate and install Shickel's products. Dave attended BRCC, where he earned a degree in Business Management.
When he's not at Shickel, Dave enjoys spending time with his family, fly fishing, throwing darts, and watching his favorite football and hockey teams, the Baltimore Ravens and Carolina Hurricanes.

Donny Slawson

Donny Slawson
Donny has been a member of the Shickel team since 2013. Before that he has had a lifetime of experience working on erecting steel structures and working with high-quality stainless-steel finishes. He can install any piece anywhere. Donny spends his off hours with his family. He also really enjoys hunting and going to bluegrass music festivals.

Bobby Snell

Bobby Snell
Bobby has been in the metal industry since 1986, with experience as an ironworker, field installer, and fabricator, along with metal building work. He joined Shickel Corporation in 2004 and became Production Manager over fabrication in 2005, a role he has excelled in ever since.
Outside of work, Bobby enjoys spending time with his family and getting outdoors in any capacity, particularly hunting in the fall.

Ryan Collier

Ryan Collier
Ryan earned his bachelor’s degree in marketing from James Madison University in 2013. He worked in business development at software companies before making the jump to Shickel in 2018. During Ryan’s time at Shickel he has developed and maintained multiple relationships with clients and has been the tip of the spear for Shickel expanding business in the Mid-Atlantic market. In his free time Ryan loves to play board games, follow any Detroit based teams, and spend time with his wife and two girls.
