Present Day

Shickel Corporation's story began in 1938, when John and Fleta Shickel purchased a 50% interest in a 900-square-foot wood-frame machine shop, founding Miller-Shickel Machine Shop in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley. What began as equipment repairs and tool sharpening for local farmers evolved as new equipment, capabilities, and opportunities emerged, and the addition of welding in the early years laid the foundation for the full-service fabricator Shickel would become.

In 1955, Carlton and Helen Shickel purchased the company, marking its second generation. Under their leadership, Shickel expanded its facilities, adopted new technology, and grew beyond machine shop work into increasingly complex fabrication. The company was renamed Shickel Corporation in 1996 to reflect its expanded capabilities.

Helen Shickel became President in 1994, continuing the family's focus on quality and customer service for two more decades. Leadership passed to the third generation in 2014, when Mark Shickel became President and Gary Shickel became Executive Vice President. Today, members of the fourth generation are helping shape what comes next.

From a small machine shop to a leader in custom metal fabrication, Shickel's growth has been built on craftsmanship, trusted relationships, and doing the job right.
